Pierre-Alain Ruffieux, formerly Head of Global Pharma Technical Operations at Roche, has joined Lonza Group as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Lonza had named him as the company’s new CEO in June.

He succeeds Albert Baehny, Chairman of Lonza, who took on the role of CEO ad interim in November 2019 after Lonza announced that former CEO Marc Funk was leaving the company for personal reasons. Mr. Baehny will now work with Ruffieux to ensure a smooth handover of leadership before returning to his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Ruffieux has more than 20 years of experience in biopharmaceuticals, most recently as Head of Global Pharma Technical Operations at Roche, where he oversaw pharmaceutical commercial manufacturing and supply-chain operations.
