Lonza Appoints New CEO
Lonza has named Pierre-Alain Ruffieux as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective November 1, 2020.
He is currently Head of Global Pharma Technical Operations at Roche where leads a 12,000-member team responsible for pharmaceutical commercial manufacturing and supply-chain operations, and technical, quality assurance and regulatory functions. Prior to that he held roles of increasing seniority at Novartis and has over 20 years’ experience in biopharmaceuticals.
In November 2019, Lonza announced that former CEO Marc Funk was leaving the company for personal reasons. Albert Baehny, Chairman, took on the additional responsibility of CEO on an interim basis until a permanent successor was found. At the time of the announcement in November 2019, Funk is to stay until January 2020 to ensure a smooth hand-over.
Funk had been CEO of Lonza since March 2019 and was formerly President and Chief Operating Officer of the Lonza Pharma & Biotech Segment from 2014–2019. He had been a member of the Executive Committee since April 2012.
