Asymchem Opens Former Pfizer Development & Pilot Plant in UK
Asymchem Laboratories, a Tianjin, China-based CDMO of small-molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), intermediates, and drug products, has officially inaugurated its new European development and pilot manufacturing site at Discovery Park in Sandwich, Kent, UK.
The former Pfizer small-molecule facilities now employ 70 team members onsite in both the R&D labs and the API pilot plant, many of whom are legacy Pfizer employees. Additional hires are planned through to the end of the year (2024) as the pilot plant ramps up operations.
Advanced equipment for the manufacture of peptides and oligonucleotides, as well as capabilities for continuous flow and biocatalysis, will be added by 2025.
Asymchem employs over 9,700 personnel worldwide, with R&D and manufacturing operations in the UK, US, and China.

LBB Specialties Names New President & CEO
LBB Specialties, a Norwalk, Connecticut-based distributor of specialty chemicals and ingredients, has appointed Thomas Van Valkenburgh as President and Chief Executive Officer. Van Valkenburgh succeeds Hank DeWolf, who will remain with the company as a Senior Advisor to ensure a smooth transition.
Van Valkenburgh joins LBB Specialties from Kerry Group, a Dublin, Ireland-headquartered supplier of excipients and functional and nutritional ingredients, where he was President of the Specialty Chemicals business. Prior to that, he was President of IMCD US, a Rochelle Park, New Jersey-based company involved in the distribution, formulation, and sale of specialty chemicals and ingredients.

Adare Pharma Receives $3-M Grant Supporting HQ Relocation and Mfg Expansion in Pennsylvania
Adare Pharma Solutions has announced that it will receive funding of $3 million from the state government of Pennsylvania to support the company’s headquarters relocation to Pennsylvania from New Jersey and expansion of its facilities in Pennsylvania.
Adare is expanding its two Philadelphia manufacturing and packaging facilities–a 175,000-square-foot facility and a 128,000-square-foot facility. The company’s headquarters is being relocated from New Jersey to Philadelphia. Within three years, Adare says its $16.8-million expansion will create at least 115 jobs and retain 200 existing Pennsylvania jobs.
Adare received a funding proposal from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development for a $2.4-million loan under the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority loan, a $460,000 Pennsylvania First grant, and a $100,000 workforce development grant to train workers.

QHP Capital Names CEO of Portfolio Companies Bend Biosciences, CoreRx and Societal CDMO
QHP Capital, an investment firm, has appointed Owen Murray as the new CEO of the firm’s combined holdings, Bend Bioscience, CoreRx, and Societal CDMO, all CDMOs of drug products. CoreRx, a Clearwater, Florida-based CDMO acquired Societal CDMO, which has operations in Gainesville, Georgia, and San Diego, California, in April (April 2024). Bend Bioscience, based in Eugene, Oregon, focuses on early-phase CDMO and is part of CoreRx.
Murray was previously CEO of Aprecia Pharmaceutical. Prior to his role at Aprecia, he held various senior positions at Cardinal Health, Lundbeck, Ovation Pharmaceuticals, and Recordati Rare Diseases.

Lonza Adds Clinical Bottling & Labeling Capabilities to Oregon Site
Lonza has announced the addition of clinical bottling and labeling capabilities at its small-molecules site in Bend, Oregon. The offering now includes new bottling equipment for filling tablets and powder-filled capsules. The new equipment can detect defects in tablets and capsules as well as clean, fill, cap and seal, and label bottles intended for use in early-phase clinical trials.

CDMO Singota Solutions Opens Pallet Storage Facility in EU
Singota Solutions, a Bloomington, Illinois-based CDMO providing small-batch aseptic filling, aseptic manufacturing, and injectable formulation development, has expanded its European footprint by adding a new -40 °C and -20 °C pallet storage facility located just outside Milan, Italy.
The Rovello Porro facility features a range of temperature-controlled storage options designed for pharmaceutical products, including room temperature storage (15-25°C), cold storage (2-8°C), frozen storage (-20°C), and low temperature storage (-40°C).
