Roche Opens New $1.4-Bn R&D Center 

Roche has opened a new CHF 1.2-billion ($1.4 billion) pharma research and early development center at its global headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.  

The center houses approximately 1,000 laboratory and office workplaces. It consists of two high-rise laboratory buildings, with lab technologies and digital capabilities, alongside an office building and a convention center. In total, there are 33 combined laboratories and office floors with 150 labs and workplaces for around 1,800 researchers. 

Since 2009, Roche has invested CHF 4.6 billion ($5.4 billion) into the Basel/Kaiseraugst site upgrade, of which the inauguration of the new center marks the biggest single investment. In addition, Roche is currently investing a further CHF 1.2 billion ($1.4 billion) across the Basel site. In total, the company has announced investments from 2009 to 2030.of CHF 5.8 billion ($6.8 billion) into the development of the Basel/Kaiseraugst site
