Wilmington PharmaTech To Invest $18 Million In New Research and Mfg Facility

Wilmington PharmaTech, a contract research/manufacturing organization with locations in Newark, Delaware and Suzhou Jiangsu, China, is expanding with plans to hire up to 139 new employees and invest $18 million in a new research and manufacturing facility in Newark, Delaware.

The company currently employs 37 full-time staff in the US in several locations in Newark Delaware, including a 16,000-square-foot building, a 50,000-square-foot facility, and a 40,000-square-foot building

Teva Partners with Insilico for Predictive Biomanufacturing

Insilico Biotechnology, a solutions and software company based in Stuttgart, Germany, and Teva Pharmaceuticals, have entered into an agreement to apply Insilico’s technology for predictive biomanufacturing to create and implement more efficient production processes of Teva’s biopharmaceutical therapeutics.

Insilico’s proprietary Digital Twins technology for biopharmaceutical production processes employ metabolic models of producer organisms in combination with flexible process models and artificial intelligence to create optimized production processes by computational simulations. The collaboration will run for three years and will be based at Insilico’s sites in Stuttgart, Germany and at Teva’s West Chester, Pennsylvania.

ACG Group Launches Capsules Mfg. Plant in Brazil

ACG Group, a supplier offering end-to-end manufacturing solutions for the pharmaceutical industry, headquartered in Mumbai, India, has expanded its footprint in Brazil with the launch of a new capsules manufacturing plant in Pouso Alegre-Minas Gerais. With approximately Brazilian Real 350 million ($93.29 million) invested, this factory spans an area of 14,000 square meters and will generate around 500 new jobs locally.

Following the acquisition of Nova Nordeplast, a films and foils company, in 2017, this is the second ACG manufacturing facility in the region. Both will serve the entire Latin America and neighboring areas.

Lonza Reorganizes Pharma, Biotech and Nutrition Segments

Lonza has announced plans to reorganize the internal alignment of its business structure to accelerate growth along the healthcare continuum and strengthen its microbial control business. Stefan Stoffel has been appointed to a new role on the Executive Committee as Chief Operating Officer (COO), Lonza Pharma Biotech & Nutrition (LPBN), responsible for operations, from March 1.

The company will maintain two segments spanning the healthcare continuum, one dedicated to Lonza Specialty Ingredients (LSI) that will retain Consumer & Resources Protection and Consumer Product Ingredients and a second to Lonza Pharma Biotech & Nutrition (LPBN), combining Pharma & Biotech and Consumer Health & Nutrition.

In his newly created position, Stefan Stoffel will cover Operations, Quality, Engineering and Strategic Growth Initiatives across the LPBN segment. He will join Marc Funk (incoming CEO), Sven Abend (COO LSI), and Rodolfo Savitzky (Chief Financial Officer) on the Executive Committee. The commercial functions of the new LPBN segment will be driven by Marc Funk for the time being.
