AbbVie Donates $5 M to 26 Nonprofits To Support COVID-19 Relief Efforts
AbbVie has donated $5 million to 26 nonprofit organizations to support COVID-19 relief efforts.

As a result of AbbVie’s donation, the company says national and global nonprofit organizations will able to provide: (1) 55,000 frontline healthcare workers with personal protective equipment and training; (2) 50,000 children and families access to essential resources, including healthcare and education; and (3) support services, including shelter for more than 30,000 people experiencing homelessness and other at-risk populations.

The donation is being made through AbbVie’s COVID-19 Community Resilience Fund, which is part of AbbVie’s $35-million philanthropic contribution to COVID-19 relief efforts that also include donations to partners, International Medical Corps, a nonprofit, humanitarian aid organization, Direct Relief, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization providing support for people affected by poverty or emergency situations, and Feeding America, a US-based hunger relief organization.

Bayer Supports Harvard Research Study with $1 M in Wake of COVID-19
Bayer is committing $1 million to support a new, multi-year research effort by the Harvard Data Science Initiative (HDSI), which is focused on advancing public engagement with science and creating better understanding on how to build confidence in the reliability, capability, and integrity of scientific data and sound science.

The HDSI for Trust in Science supports the advancement of trust in science through data-driven insights. The first HDSI initiative will be to study the public response to scientists and scientific findings in the wake of COVID-19.

Established in 2017, the HDSI coalesces activity in statistics, computer science, and diverse fields of application to advance data-science methodologies and apply them to questions of societal importance and impact. Through its Corporate Membership Program, the HDSI connects global organizations with Harvard’s broad data science ecosystem to create opportunities for long-term scientific, economic, and social progress. Bayer joined the program in January 2020.
