Torrent Pharma, an India-based pharmaceutical company, has entered a binding agreement to acquire the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing unit in Vizag, India of Hyderabad, India-based Glochem Industries, an API and drug intermediates manufacturer in India. The acquisition also includes some drug master files.

With the addition of this unit, Torrent Pharma now has three API facilities. The company currently has five formulation manufacturing units. Overall, the company has manufacturing plants in India at Indrad, Baddi, Sikkim, Dahej, and Pithampur for producing formulations and bulk drugs. The plants are approved by regulatory authorities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Germany, Australia, and South Africa.

The newly acquired Hyderabad API unit is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and by European regulatory authorities. It is a multi-product facility with the capacity to manufacture advance intermediates and APIs. It is located at JNPC Parawada District, Vizag, and currently has three blocks for advance intermediate manufacturing and four blocks for API manufacturing. The facility also has onsite development capabilities, analytical method development, quality control laboratory capabilities, and a pilot plant.
